What is the MET Survey?

The MET Survey is currently made up of 9 waves ( 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020 (Suppl COVID-19), 2021 and 2023) started just before the 2008 financial crisis. The sample framework allows for territorial and sectorial representativeness ( 12 sector areas, 2 ATECO codes, 20 regions) and size, including microenterprises with fewer than 10 people. These characteristics, statistical coverage of specific sample sizes, is what makes the MET survey unique.

Fields covered (the specific questions of the questionnaire) are as follows:
  1. Personal Information: location, size, shareholder structure, employment information, (employment rates) etc
  2. Market Structure: market offer and sales, competitive advantages, organizational weaknesses, cost structure, network of supply chains, subcontracting, etc
  3. Market dynamics: innovative programs (past and present), growth in revenues and employment, investment goals, qualitative choices, and references to other sections, etc
  4. RD (research and development) and innovation: innovation programs, research and development, relations with external entities for research purposes, etc
  5. International Relations: presence in foreign markets, internationalization, alliances, utilization of regional and national funding policies, etc
  6. Public Policies: dissemination, relevance to the company, analysis of self-organization, aspects of evaluation, business expectations, dynamic strategies and policies, etc
  7. Private demand for public interventions: the private demand for public support is estimated based on constraints and difficulties of businesses when implementing dynamic strategies
  8. Financial Constraints: this section looks into financial structure, obstacles, relationships with banks, and bank rationing
  9. Environmental and Social Sustainability
  10. Additional Topics: analysis on alternative energy and the environment, administrative costs with government bodies, copyrights, the impact of recession, etc
